Yes, but...

...a couple questions:
What OS is this on?
What is the history of this iBook?
- It appears that you are not the original owner or you would have stated this in the begining.
Why is it not possible to get the password from the original owner?

* Please do not think me rude but I would hate for you to get the answer and defeat the security on this machine only for the truth to be that this machine was stolen and if you were the owner of a stolen machine, you would appreciate it not being easy for the thief to get in. I recognize that we must trust whatever answer you give, but we must also challenge you to some extent.

You need to make sure that yo

You need to make sure that you've got a Mac OS X installer disk (preferably 10.3 [Panther] or 10.4 [Tiger]). Insert the disk, and hold down the "C" key at startup to force the iBook to boot to the optical drive. You can let up on the "C" key once you see the grey screen with the Apple logo in the center.

When you get to the Mac OS X installer screen, check the menus for "Reset Password" (not exactly sure which menu it's under -- hunt and pack, and you won't hurt anything -- just don't actually reinstall Mac OS X by mistake!) You should be able to handle it from there.

THAT

Makes it yours. Biggrin Anyway, i would suggest getting a new OS and start from scratch. It would be worth it to put out for your new iBook Wink anyway, Just pick up an OS X Box at the local Mac supporting store, and do a fresh install. (Be sure to pay for it before leaving Blum 3 ) it's worth it to have a fresh machine. Also, when you get done with that, report the specs! i want to know what goody he has left behind!

search the site

a search brings up this recent thread, among others... but this one details how to reset the password without the original CD.
