Needing Power Source for PowerBook Duo 270c

I recently was given an old powerbook 270c. However it was missing a rather important piece... The power supply. The battery was dead and so I could not get it to start up. Does anyone know where I could get one for cheap, or build one?

Power Supply

You could probably find one cheaper on ebay or here in the Wanted to Buy forum than you could make one yourself. They're common to quite a few models, like the 1400.

But if you do want to build, you need a 6.5mm (large) stereo headphone jack and a little rubber cable clamp or grommet to fit around the base of it - this ensures that the rings on the connector line up with the right pins inside the 'book. I forget what the polarity is for the ring tip and sleevc, maybe someone else here knows.

The Apple power supply also has a large metal sleeve around the center pin that goes into the ring-shaped slot you'll see on the back of the 'book. It doesn't seem to do anything.

Current and voltage requirements are on the bottom of the lappie. Once you price a power supply to suit from Radio Crap and the plug and your time and the chance of mucking it up, compare the price of a used power supply from ebay.

Cheat

I cheat with the remains of my 520, and spliced wires into it from the 12V line on a PC power supply. Not very portable - well, not at all - and not too compact anymore either, but it works. The 520's AC adapter has 4 pins at the 'book end: two for power, and I assume the other two go to the charging circuits.

Anyone out there know, or can quickly measure, the duo adapter's DC output?

The older 68k adapter says:

The older 68k adapter says:
DC24 v
1.04 A

2300c's is about 1.5 A, IIRC

No time to look now, lightning storm just went into flash/boom mode . . .

Can you really make a power sdapter with a stereo headphone plug? I'm in need of a power supply for a Duo 270c as well. Does anyone know the polarity?

Power supply

Would a DUO 230 PS work? I have a nonfunctional 230 available... (PS powers up the PB, but no chime...) I know this is NOT the for sale page, I want to give this away to a good home...
