I upgraded the hard drive in my powerbook 1400cs. Along with that, I am upgrading to OS 9.1. I'm looking for suggestions for software that y'all think I might need. I won't be doing any internet stuff on here, mostly note taking and maybe some gaming.
thanks, theMike

For note taking, with multimedia capabilities, I think that Appleworks 6.2 would be hard to beat in OS9. iTunes was available in that OS too.

Definitely Appleworks. And anyone know the best iTunes version for 9.1?
The last iTunes to support Mac OS 9 was 2.0.4.
Unfortunately this version doesn't support iTMS or any DRM-protected songs purchased from it.
i agree with appleworks as far as gaming a rule of thumb with most laptops is you dont game, especially one the old, but if you like the old stuff you can download Atari and NES emulators off the net to play those games, however if you are going down that route the law requires that you own the machine you are emulating otherwise you can only have the software for 24 hours to "evalutate" it.
There are also a lot of great System 6 & 7 era games that can be downloaded from places like Jag's House.
OK, I've come to the conclusion that AppleWorks runs much too slowly for me to use. It starts up fine, but there is quite a delay from when I type something to when it actually shows up on the screen.
So, seeing as AW is more than I really need for basic note taking, but SimpleText is a bit too, well, simple, anyone have a suggestion for a nice lightweight word processor?
BTW, iTunes runs really slowly, too. I'm considering an upgrade, as I have the cacheless model, but upgrading to a faster CPU from another 1400 will give me more speed, and an L2 cache. But for now, running apps more suited to my needs is probably the best road.
