CFFA for Apple 1??

Hi All,

I am seriously considering making a version of my CFFA for Apple II board to the Apple 1.
Like many others, I have recently purchased one of the Apple 1 clones off ebay. In addition to that, I have a Replica 1 from Briel Computers.

I am trying to determine if there would be any interest in a small card, about the size
of the orginal tape cassette interface card that could attach to an orginal Apple 1, the recent
clone sold on ebay, and the Replica 1 (with a converter) which would bring CF storage to the Apple 1.
Of course there would be no ProDOS, but it would have some simple mapping scheme to let you save and
recall blocks of memory to the card. The card would have EEPROM on board. The memory mapping would be flexible.

Additionally, this card would add some extra SRAM to help fill out the Apple 1's memory map. Mainly so I can run basic. I am also keeping the Kim-1 in mind as I work out the design of this board, so I can have non-volatile storage on my Kim-1 also.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated...

Thanks,
Rich

Re: CFFA for Apple 1??

I am seriously considering making a version of my CFFA for Apple II board to the Apple 1.

Excellent idea! I've also picked up an Apple I Repro from Steve Gabaly **and** have a Kim-1. I don't currently have plans for a Replica I (even if I could...).

Of course there would be no ProDOS, but it would have some simple mapping scheme to let you save and
recall blocks of memory to the card. The card would have EEPROM on board. The memory mapping would be flexible.

Would these changes eliminate the IDE interfacing capability? It would be a nice feature to keep if I could easily haul stuff from/to the CF from/to a disk to/from the Apple-1 from/to the Kim-1.

Additionally, this card would add some extra SRAM to help fill out the Apple 1's memory map. Mainly so I can run basic.

I like this, too.

I am also keeping the Kim-1 in mind as I work out the design of this board, so I can have non-volatile storage on my Kim-1 also.

Yes, please!

Scott

P.S. Being a beat behind, it took me a while to find your meaning of "CFFA". Searching the web didn't help much:

Canadian Forces Fire Academy
Chilean Fresh Fruit Association
Crested Fowl Fanciers Association
Christian Farmers Federation of Alberta
Chemical Fabrics and Film Association
Coalition for Fair Fisheries Arrangements
Computer Fraud and Abuse Act

Re: CCFA for Apple?

Yeah- First I searched for "CFFA acronym" -- an academic approach- figuring it was an industry term. That's how I found the odd meanings. Pretty quickly I realized Plan A wasn't working, so I switched to "CFFA apple".

CFFA for Apple1 update

Hi All,

I thought I would follow up my original post with some more information. Progress on CFFA1 project is comming along now nicely. With help from Dave Lyons and Vince Briel , I should have a decent demo of it ready for VCF 9.0 in November. If any of you are there stop by and say hi.

CFFA1 Highlights:
- Approx same size as Apple1 cassette interface
- Reads and Writes ProDOS file formatted CF cards
- 8K EEPROM for firmware
- 32K SRAM to expand Apple1 and clones

I will attempt to upload pictures on my site soon.
Thanks,
Rich
