Apple IIc Plus and Fujitsu external 3.5" Floppy drive problems

I recently acquired an external Fujitsu 3.5" 800k floppy drive. I cannot get it to work with my IIc Plus. According to the system manual....the drive should be recognized as slot 5, drive 2. Instead it sees it as slot 6 drive 1. The l.e.d. comes on, but it wont read any disks. I do a verify and it says the disk is write protected when it's not. I can't format a disk, verify a disk, or catalog a disk from the external floppy. Could the drive be toast?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure about the slot n

Are you sure about the slot numbers? You can use ProDOS to get the listing of what is in what "slot" in the //c+. Also, the //c+ is supposed to have a bug that won't let it work with 400k single sided disks, so be sure you are using full 800K formatted disks.

i'm not positive of the layout of the //c+, but my //c has the internal 5.25 at S6D1 and the external Disk //c at S6D2. I know a few things weremoved around in the //c+, but I don't know if the disks were.

Ext. Drive.

Thanks for your input. I think the drive may be defective. I'll have to get another one.

Fujitsu 3.5" drive

Is it possible that this drive works with the Macintosh IIc, and not the Apple IIc or IIc Plus? Here is the drive info:

Fujitsu External 3.5" 800K Floppy Drive
19 pin male connector
Model # FW5020M05
Part # FS500090-05

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards.

It's possible they're Mac onl

It's possible they're Mac only. I know in the early days Apple produced the original 400k drives that were not A2 compatible. Then they made the A2 Unidisk 3.5 drive, and then the 800K Mac 3.5, and then the Mac&A2 Apple 3.5. I'm not sure how all the other 3rd parties had their drives but if the mothership was being so diverse with drive revisions and suporrt, I'm thinking there are incompatible drives out there. And incompatible computers. I'm just a touch miffed that my //c is only a ROM 0, but at least I can make it boot from my external Disk //c...

EDIT: This auction has a photo of a label that says the drive is a Mac drive. The sellers description is for both, but I'd believe the label first, and an actual test second. It's also being sold as a //c drive, not //c+, so it may need some of the drive translation stuff in the later //c ROMs.

I figured as much!

I kida figured it was going to be incompatible instead of defective. Thanks for your input.
