WTB: 12" iBook G4 Logic Board

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an iBook G4 with a video problem on eBay. I was hoping to pick up a new logic board for it. If anyone has one please let me know. I am looking for a G4 800MHz but I will also consider any other speed (especially if you include the fan and modem on the 1GHz model or a frame on any model above that.) If anyone can help me out please let me know and also let me know how much you are willing to part with it for. Payment will be through Paypal.

Thanks,
Paul Martin

Cool thanks, I will give it a try this weekend. Do you have any idea how stable it will end up being or of how permenant the fix is? Have you tried this yourself?

Thanks,
Paul

that particular fix ...

only applies to the g3 iBooks which had the gpu mounted on the underside of the logic board. On the G4 iBooks, the gpu is located on the topside of the logic board and secured under a heatsink. Short of logic board replacement, I do not know of any reliable fixes for this particular issue.

If I could find a way to apply pressure to the GPU is the logic board likely to work? By the way, in the meantime I am still looking to buy a logic board, I need this computer to be stable.

the trouble

In order to apply pressure to the gpu on an iBook G4, well more than already is, you would need to place something between the heatsink and the gpu. Trouble is that this will creat issues with heat dissipation and possible damage to the chip while doing this. Also, to do this, you would need to remove the heatsink assembly (not a trivial procedure btw). In my personal and professional opinion, replacing the logic board is going to be your best bet.

With that having been said, check the frame for cracks. Any cracks in the frame compromise structural integrity, and contribute to flexing. If there are cracks replace the frame. Not doing so will result in having the replacement logic board go again.
