Capacitor for Barrel Distotion - Installation Question

On this page: http://www.colourclassicfaq.com/highres/barrel.html

Eric says you have to remove the analogue board each time you try another capacitor. Can't you just push them down into the holes - or do they require soldering?

Has anyone done this?

Yep, I've done it! ;-)

And you have to solder the caps in place. Sad

But once you get the hang of removing and replacing the a/b, it's a quick process when it's the fourth time in one evening. Wink

No kidding. I was sweating b

No kidding. I was sweating bullets the first time I took the AB out (it's still hooked up to the video board, so you gotta be careful where you stand it up so it doesn't fall and yank the neck off the tube!). But since I had to re-do the isolations and soldering so many times for the 640x480 mod, I sort of got the hang of it.

I've now got everything worki

I've now got everything working great!

FYI - The 1nf ceramic capacitor worked great for me, but the 3nf and 4nf did not. I didn't try a 2nf (couldn't find one). If anyone has an extra 2nf I'll buy it from you.

Good news!

When you sya some caps didn't work, do you mean you got no image at all, or just a badly shaped display?

Hi Stuart, I tried the 3nf

Hi Stuart,

I tried the 3nf and 4nf caps and got a badly shaped display and some "buzzing" across the top portion of the screen. The 1nf was crystal clear, and provided quite a bit of extra space, but not all the way to the edge. So I just wonder if a 2nf might just finish the job.

2nF?

Thanks for the clarification. 2nF could be what you need. Remember that two 1nF caps in parallel will do the same job.
