Transfering FIles with ADT on a GS with a SSC

Hi,, all I have been getting the best info .. here so I will try again...

I downloaded ADT_2005 .. and finially figured out how to transfer files .. from my Laptop to
my Apple IIe enhanced... but I have tried everything I could find on the net about
doing the same with my Rom1 GS.. and a SSC card.. I have the Apple II ADT side and the DOS pC side ..and they both work great with the IIe .. I have tried the card in slots 1,2 and 7.. config. each slot as your card.. and when I try to get Dir. or recieve a file and the Apple II adt goes into limbo... any Ideas? ...

So, you take the same card, no config changes, no cable changes? And you drop it in slot 2, set slot 2 to 'your card' in the control panel? Hmmm. Good question.

The limbo is because the two ends don't see each other. It could be electrical (cable, null modem, etc.) or electronic (slot not set to 'your card') but it ought to work. Especialy if the same card/cable setup works on an IIe. I have a ROM01 IIgs and haven't had any trouble moving the SSC card among my other apples and the ROM01 GS.

I had the same setup. In ord

I had the same setup. In order to get my IIgs to work with ADT, I had to reduce the transfer rate down to 9600. There must be just enough of a timing disparity between a IIe and a IIgs to cause problems at 19200. Worked for me.

You've got a whole different kettle of fish, there. ADT can only transfer 140k, 5.25" diskette images. The ADTPro project on sourceforge (http://adtpro.sourceforge.net) will transfer arbitrarily sized images (i.e. 3.5" .2IMGs, for example). But you may have a different problem to sovle first, depending on exactly what format the diskette image you're trying to transfer is in now.

Can you explain exactly what you've got, and where you want to go?

... I have sys504.sdk .. and I really don't know what sdk is... I havn't tried to tranfer the file yet as I know it will not fit on the 5.25... so I assume The file has to be converted somehow .. to files or file that can be transfered.. to the Apple 5.25 and then expanded to the 3.5 drive... and become a SYS Disk ..Bootable.. ? ...

AS you probably can tell by now i am very new to this.. and appreciate all the help...

Ok. Maybe others have an easier way to do all of this, but here is what I would do:

1. Get a copy of FaddenSoft's CiderPress (http://www.faddensoft.com/ciderpress/)
2. Your .sdk is a compressed shrink-it archive. Use CiderPress (Tools->Disk image converter) to convert it to an "unadorned ProDos order" disk; name it sys504.po.
3. Transfer a copy of ADTPro to a 5.25" floppy using the original ADT you have.
4. Use ADTPro to transfer sys504.po to your 3.5" floppy.

You of course need to format your floppies before transfering data onto them. So be sure you transfer a copy of ProDOS to get utilities so you can format your 3.5" floppy, for example.

Yeah. Apples are a bad habit of mine. >:-)

So, the Java part is a little tricky, to be sure. You need to have a regular Java installation on your machine. If you don't already have one (or aren't sure where yours is...) you can download one from Sun here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp The rxtx library, part of the ADTPro download, has some install instructions. It's not that bad... for Windows, you really only need to copy the rxtxSerial.dll file to your Java ...\jre\bin directory, and then copy RXTXcomm.jar to your ...jre\lib\ext directory.

For IIgs users - the original ADT has been updated to talk directly to the IIgs modem port. So you don't actually need an SSC any more. The 2006 version of ADT (v1.31) can be downloaded here:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=170262
or, from ADT's official home at BerliOS:
https://adt.berlios.de/

ADT inherited this capability from the ADTPro Project: http://adtpro.sourceforge.net
