WIFI for 5300cs?

Does anyone know if it's possible to convert a 5300cs into a WIFI machine?

I was able to get a 3400c onl

I was able to get a 3400c online with a Lucent-based OEM Dell card and some OS 8.6 drivers for Lucent cards. What OS are you running, and do you have a WiFi card already?

I'm not familiar with what you are describing here. I don't have a WiFi card already. That's what I'm wondering about... Is there one available for the old 5300cs?

The 5300 had PC Card slots, so it will take an older WiFi card. You'll need to find drivers to use it with MacOS, but you don't necessarily need a Mac specific card as long as there is a compatible driver for the card or the chipset it uses.

There are some links on the Lowendmac page for the 5300 toward the bottom that may help.

EDIT: the biggest problem will still be finding a classic Mac OS capable browser to run. Most browsers that run on Mac OS 8 and 9 are getting long in the tooth for modern uses.

Hey,

I had my 3400C wifi-capable but the browsers that will work with it are severely limited. It was fun for a while but all that rich media flying around out there makes it more of a hobby thing than serious browsing. Just my experience. You might want to ask yourself if it's worth the trouble.

I did just that with my 3400c

I did just that with my 3400c. I ended up scrapping the idea of using it with WiFi as-is with 8.6. I may end up loading Linux or BSD on it, or even trying XPostFacto for OS X. For now though, unless browsing needs involve simple (coded, not uses) sites, then an old Mac for browsing isn't a great idea. Even Win95/98 laptops are falling out of use. FireFox is dropping support for Win98 in the next release...
