making the apple logo pulse in sleep mode?

i have a 15 ti pb g4. i was wondering if it was possible to get the apple logo that lights up when the laptop is on to pulse when the pb is in sleep mode instead of the sleep light. also, do you know what makes the lights pulse when in sleep? is it a hardware switch of some sort or a software command that makes it pulse. i have seen the mods to make the apple logo colorful, but none that make it pulse while in sleep mode. thanks for any help you can provide. if you can only point me in the right direction that would be fine as well.

Apple Logo

The apple logo is given light by the LCD itself. So, in order for the Apple Logo to Light up, the screen has to be on, or rather the light in the screen

Apple logo

As already mentioned, the apple is lit by the backlight from the lcd. Making this backlight pulse wouldn't be a good idea, you will probably kill the driver, it doesn't like much and rapid changes.

It could be possible to wire

It could be possible to wire up and LED the lights up the logo, but getting the case open and finding space inside for it might be an issue. Also, it could be tied in to the main sleep LED with a resistor and transistor so that you won't over draw that line and run power to it from else where in the machine. That would need some custom circuit work to get done, but it would be good because it could be set up to switch functions: off, sleep tie-in, and always on. Of course putting a switch in would need finding a location for it...

yes, I think possible

My thinking is to add a number of very low profile SMT LEDs all around the outside edge of the Apple plastic in the display bezel. Oooh, multi-colored perhaps . . .

It could work actually, I think.

All my laptops except my tiBo

All my laptops except my tiBook had the pulsing Apple logo, that the first thing I did to set my laptop apart from all the others. Just rewire the sleep led on the front of the unit with long wires to the back of the LCD. If you position the led just right the Apple logo will light up bright and nice.

Depending on your unit (my MacBook was more work then my MacBook Pro) the time consumed by this mod is minimal. On my MacBook Pro it was as easy as popping of the display cover, run the wires through the hinge and to the sleep led and then solder it on.

Heh, yeah but the OP has a TiBook . . .

Unless you've already got the display apart for an LCD or hinge repair, I'd strongly recommend no-one take apart their TiBook display.
