hi guys, im phil, im in the uk and i have owned a g4 powermac agp (400hz) for around 3 years now. so far so good! it was getting a little slow i think as i have 30gb of music and 20gb of photos. i looked at the ram and there was only 360gb (ish) on it so i have ordered some ram to take it upto 1.5gb which would be a bit better than im used to im sure!!! i have also now ordered a sonnet 1.4ghz cpu upgrade, which will also hopefully make a huge difference to what im used to on it! what i want to know is, for first if anyone on here has done similar things and what sort of performance they have experienced from it! and secondly, how easy is it and how do you do it 'roughly'? do i have to re-load os9 to the mac? just i no longer hace the tiger dvd so will i have to purchase that to get it back as it was?
also, maybe a daft one, but will 1 bluetooth dongle be able to support a wireless mouse aswell as a wireless keyboard?
and, the mac doesnt have a dvd or even a cd writer which id love to have, is it worth me buying an internal replacement or do i go for an external?? what internal can i get hold of fairly cheap?
i think thas all i have got at the moment, ill let you know if i have any more questions!!!
any help will be greatly appreciated!
One of my fave vendors, OWC has Apple-ROMed internal 16x dual-layer SuperDrives for $29, about as cheap as that sort of thing gets. At that price I'd say go internal.
cheers, thats great, i shall look intoit, will still probably be cheaper with the shipping aswell!
If you go external, stay away from iomega. Lots of cheap iomega burners that say pc or mac on ebay. buy one, and youll have to spend lots of cash on software to run it, the software they shipped with is unsupported.
just thought id throw it in here, patchburn. it can let you use unsupported burners on os x
