new 68kmla thread

Ok, ill be the one to start the new thread. Why don't we discuss meaningful changes to the new 68kMLA and not what was wrong. I don't want to start another age war. So, let's decide what should be changed, feature wise, not content wise. Let's leave all of the steriotypical comments out please.

Keep it to 68K machines and maybe allow Nubus PPC posts, this will cover the 68Ks with PPC card upgrades and all Nubus cards.

How about having a website along with the forums like everyone else? It would be a good place for a FAQ, some cool pics, a history of the site, and some technical info and links to common files.

I like the old defunct 68k picture gallery (contributed a bunch of picks there), never did like using an external site like flikr.

An upload section for files would be nice. Each file last a specific amount of time and then gets erased, usefull for posting drivers people request (and others can grab) but limits the amount of junk that collects. You would need to be a member for a specific period of time before you can upload, to keep spammers from messing it up.

post counts

and before it starts as an issue for folk in the future is there a way to modify it in some way? hidden, or perhaps a 'digg' type idea for useful content?

A general FAQ is something that has been discussed and started by some people here. The trouble is maintaining it. A good FAQ is a very useful thing. I think we can all agree that some of the current FAQs are getting long in tooth, even if they contain good info. (Gamba, Jag's, macfaq, etc.) Since it is now possible to own many different 68k machines, it's easier for one person to contribute new info instead of waiting for several people to trickle in info on which particular machine they have. Between a few dedicated collectors, the details of most of the 68k line can be flushed out pretty easily, so long as they can get to work and be dedicated for a while. I'm pretty sure I've got at least half or more of the line, but I don't have the time to catalog and detail them in just a few goes...

If a few regulars/moderators

If a few regulars/moderators are prepared to take on the archiving task, I'd suggest we have some process whereby members can nominate a thread or post as one they think has lasting reference value by alerting the appropriate archivist. That way, without having to constantly monitor everything, someone can check the thread, pull out the appropriate bits and save it in a FAQ. With a modicum of indexing, the result should be quite reasonable and the task not too onerous.
