I bought a pioneer DVD-RW drive from a friend to use in my new quicksilver machine, which has no optical drive. I checked the at xlr8 to see if it was compatible first. it is a pioneer DVR112DBK. it came from out of a PC. when i plug it in, it reads, but does not burn, says its unsupported. Is there something i'm missing?
try here:

BTW what OS are you running ?
its a DVR-112D right ( the BK in the model number is the color of the drive)
these can be made to burn in OS 9 (with a little mod of a PioneerCDR authoring extension).
Tiger or Leopard should support this drive out of the box. i know in 10.4.3 ( i think) OS X gained support for the DVR-110 drives, i know cause i have one and it works great. a friend modded the authoring extension for me to burn with the drive in OS 9.2.2 ( i modded one to work for a DVR-111D) i gave the file to xlr8 (the one for the 111D). its a easy mod to do.
but you do (like Hawaii Cruiser said) need patchburn for anything under tiger ( i am not sure what version of tiger gained support for the 112 or 112D) i do know my friend has that model and it works great in tiger 10.4.10 ( he didn't use patchburn, cause its supported)
i have os 10.2 and i was able to fix the drivers and now it works! It took two tries, i tried the last one in the list first, and didnt do anything, so I tried it agian at random and she flys...
if i was you i would try to get tiger
yeah i have tiger installed on a 10gig HDD, but no disks yet. I do like it though.
