Help with eMac 700mhz fan noise

The fan runs constantly until the Mac goes to sleep. I have read about the Fanmate 1 and Fanmate 2 resistor and about keeping the eMac a foot away from the wall and other ways to deaden the dB's of the noise.

Do you guys have any suggestions or expertise on this subject. I have no problem working inside the eMac.

Thanks.

maybe the fan are going out,

maybe the fan is going out, have you considered replacing it/them?

there is almost no way short of replacing the fan when they start going loud, but the noise can be caused by to much dust buildup on the fan blades knocking if off balance ( which sometimes it is as easy as cleaning the blades off) if its left like that for to long it can cause premature fan failure, when the fan failure starts its only a matter of time before it goes out. then the only option will be to replace the fan.

And if you are going to repla

And if you are going to replace the fan do a bit of research and find another with similar CFM volume, but lower dBa than the stock fan. You're almost certain to find a ball bearing fan or one of the magnetic bearing styles that are very quiet (< 25DBa) for $10-20.

EDIT: I'm not sure of the fan size int he eMac, but I'm sure it's a stock size, 80-120mm. Available else where, but $9.99 for a 14 dBa with 24 CFM isn't too shabby, and the blades are made to be pulled from the frame for cleaning. http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0255279

The fan is making its normal hum not noise from failure. Guess I wasn't clear on this. The fan sounds very good just way too loud for my liking. It never stops until I put the eMac to sleep. I am used to noiseless iMacs not all this white noise.

Here is a link that shows the original eMac 700 (maybe others) fan, of course the same fan is housed differently to be used in the eMac:

http://www.pcpartscollection.com/nm4712cofap4.html

It doesn't give much specs on the fan. Can anyone explain why its $47.00?

Playing with searches shows me that it's a Panasonic: http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/appliance/appliance_fans_dc_axial_inch.htm

It's listed as a 120mm fan in you link, but the Panasonic site lists it at 119mm when you change the option from inches to mm, which could be a conversion rounding error. There're PDF datasheets for them so you should be able to check the specs and find something cheaper.

yowzaah

That's alot for a bloody fan!

Here's near-as-dammit the same part for $15. Of course, 120mm fans are really a commodity item, lots of choice out there.

Of course 41.5dBa is pretty dang loud. If someone could find a 120MM fan that pushes almost 120CFM and puts out 30 or lower dBa we might have a winner.
