I agree. I don't see nearly enough stuff there with the IIc to make it worth $300. I'd be amazed if he gets that, but then again you never can tell, look at the prices they get on eBay sometimes.

yep , your right , its amazing what people are asking for these apple's.... I guess for the serious collector , you would want something that is brand new , un-opened , but these are far and few between.

This thread confuses me. I'm not sure about the "sadness." So what would you estimate it is worth today, and how much would it have been worth in 1992? Of course, what a person asks for something has nothing to do with value until it sells at its selling price. Lots of variables in situations like this. Maybe he's hard to part with it and will only feel happy doing so at that price or close to it. He does say he will "except" the best offer. So what's to be sad about? And if he gets his price, who knows what's going on in the mind of the buyer and where he or she is coming from. One sale does not a market make. And then, if you've got one in the vault already--which I'm sure a lot of Fritters do--then seeing a rise in price valuation results in the opposite of sad.

Methinks the sadness is actually about not having the "right" to snatch up a little butterfly to fill in a gap in the humble collection because the bugger is irritatingly dallying in "Their" field where only the obnoxious aristocracy are allowed to roam, and the fear that some carefree powderface dandy is going to happen by on horseback and wisk it up before it flickers down your way. A sadness born simply from anxiety and a reflection of one's place, maybe. Sorry, you'll have to excuse me. I just watched a movie about the first Queen Elizabeth that's still humming in my mind. A metaphor a day keeps the Alzheimer's away, the other AF says. I probably haven't a clue what I'm saying. Anyway, you should be happy for the Macnut who coughs up the $300, if that ever happens. He'll be happy. SadMacs are passe.

Craigslist is far more of a garage sale than eBay. Prices fly in all kinds of directions. I still see guys trying to sell Beige G3's for hundreds of dollars. Ridiculous, but I can't complain. I've gotten some great deals from Craigslist. I bought an iSub in excellent condition today off an add on Craiglist for $5. That's how much the seller asked for it. Picked it up on my way to the beach. Transaction took less than 30 seconds.

One thing I've always found peculiar from watching my local Craigslist, and I suspect it may be the case elsewhere as well, is how many Apple products are up for sale in the computer section. What's Apple's share of the computer retail market? It's still in the single digits, right? On Craigslist, the Apple stuff for sale always seems to be far more representative as a percentage of total items for sale than Apple's retail market share. In other words, Apple's retail sales comprise maybe 7% (?) of total computer sales in the stores, yet on Craigslist, the Apple items for sale are often around, I'd say, maybe 30% of the computers for sale, or maybe even more. I'm not sure what to think about that. There seems like a few ways you could interpret that fact.

I notice eBay has responded to the competition from Craigslist with a Craigslist of their own: Kijiji Pretty dump name for a launch. Maybe they have ideas of it being a catchy phrase like google.

many times i see vintage computers well overpriced but in subsquent weeks you see it getting posted with lower and lower prices. Sometimes they just do this to make sure they get the most possible. If you really want that iic you should be patient it might get reposted at a far cheaper price.

regarding the comments about why so many macs are sold. I read somewhere that there are alot of scams especially with macs.
I personally have only bought things off there in the sub 50$ range. I wouldn't trust my luck with anything that cost too much.
