IIfx: dumpster trash or valuable antique?

I bought it at an auction 10 yrs ago, it boots, its got a video card, I added to maximum possible ram, its the most expensive computer Apple ever sold.

Should I take advantage of a legitimate opportunity to discard it for free responsibly, or should I try to sell it? Thanks

You maxed it to 128mb RAM? 8

You maxed it to 128mb RAM? 8 x 16mb 64-pin SIMMS. That's impressive. How much did you pay for the RAM and where did you find it? That's probably the most valuable part of your IIfx. I had four IIfx's in all which I sold long ago. Only kept one of the motherboards. The ROM's are valued by SE/30 owners, and except for the RAM, the rest of the machine is just a Mac II.

I'd humbly recommend selling it or donating it. I'm sure there's plenty of people here who would take it off your hands for cost of shipping + beer money Wink

Plain Jane

The problem with the IIfx as a collector's item is, it's not at all an attractive looking machine. It's about as boring looking as you can get. The Mac II case design is nothing more than a plain box monitor support. The TAM had the same price tag as the IIfx ($10,000), but the difference in case aesthetics is night and day. The aesthetics of the IIfx is in the design and concept of its motherboard, which means you need to be a technician to appreciate it. I don't think IIfx's are actually all that rare, too. A lot of companies seemed to have been willing to cough up the expense for it's "wicked" 40mhz processing. The ROM card is worth at least $50. 128mb of 64-pin RAM--I don't know what that would be worth. I'd probably shoot for at least $100.

I would say it has value. The memory is different than macs of that era. One of the complaints i've heard from owners was finding the memory. Yours is maxed out. I would never through away a perfectly good working mac. At the vary least try giving away on craigslist or something similar just to keep it in "circulation" amongs collectors.
