Need AVI movie player for OS 9 and X

Does anyone know of any programs that will play .avi movie files. I don't want to convert them just play them as they are created from my camcorder?

I have searched on Google but can only find programs that convert them to quicktime files.

Thanks.

The only media player you will ever need. :)

thats for OS X only and its quite good at everything sept playing .mkv and H.264, for that i use Mplayer but for all other video files its VLC all the way for me.

then there is OS 9

there is so many addons for QT for OS 9 to make it able to play .avi files, but for some reason QT isnt to good at playing some, for that i use BTV or BTV pro (it uses all plug ins thats installed for QT),

but to play them you will need these (these are direct download links)

WMA audio codec

AC3 codec

3ivx codec (divx codec)

download the above and install them in OS 9 then you will be able to play many .avi videos under OS 9, there could be a few more codecs that might be needed to play a few but the above will knock just about all of them out to enable to play. the only thing is sub titles and videos with multi audio that OS 9 players dont do (that i have seen).

it took me a wile locating the above downloads cause they are slowly being taken offline, but these are something every OS 9 needs (if you play videos in OS 9).

Of course on OS X you'll want

Of course on OS X you'll want to use the Flip4Mac plugins via MS: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
