Keyboard/typing has slowed down

Hi there!

I'm having problems with my keyboard, and I would like some ideas or confirmation on what I think the problem is. When I'm online (like now) and typing (an email or posting to someone's blog) the speed of my typing compared to that of which the characters appear is dramatically differently than normal (so much slower). When I'm using Word documents for writing papers my typing compared to when the characters appear is normal fast, the characters appear right away. I think that it's because my internet connection is slow and sporadic (I'm using my landlord's wireless) Is that right, or might there be a hardware problem I'm unaware of? I have an iBookG4 I bought in 2004, so it might be the age (please nooooo!!!!)...

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Lindsay

When you type into a web page

When you type into a web page (such as this site) or email, each character you type does not get sent over the internet. Only when you click Submit does the information go out onto the internet.

It sounds like your browser is running slowly. You might want to try another browser and see if that makes a difference. If you're running Firefox with lots of extensions installed then that's probably the problem. Try turning some of them off when you don't need them and see if the keyboard speeds up.

Hope this helps,

It is my browser...

Thanks Simon!

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.12 and the typing is slow, even with only one tab open....When I use Safari, I don't have this problem, so thanks for narrowing my focus...but the extensions, what do you mean by that? I prefer Firefox if only because I'm so used to it...

Found out about those pesky extentions and add-ons...

Hi again Simon,
I figured out about the add-ons, I went to Firefox's site and followed the troubleshooting guidelines about opening in safe-mode and disabling the add-ons and testing again and again to see if I can type as usual...seems it was a couple of add-ons I didn't even remember adding...odd that...

Anyhoo, thanks again for your reply and focusing me in the right direction...this is so much better than calling my Mac-geek friend all the time...

Smile

Firefox is sloowwww...

Many people have been complaining about the speed of Firefox but it's supposed to get better for version 3.

Glad I could help find out what the problem was though.
