has anyone in this forum , had the opportunity to repaint their apple II? if so , what color scheme do you use? I know for a II+ it's a different shade then that of a IIe or IIe Platnum.. I have an excellent running IIe Enhanced , but over the years , the yellowing effect has set in. I have already taken it apart and gotten it ready to prime and paint , but I am looking to try and match the exact or close to color, that I can find. doesn't have to be perfect or anything like that. just nice to look at is all.

I made a custom (read hacked) IIgs -> IIe conversion using a very yellowed case. I also had yellowed but working DuoDisk, Monitor IIe and SystemSaver. I found some close colored spraypaint, as it's really hard to figure out which plastic to match. By painting all the parts the same color, it came out very well - to the point that I like my matched painted system more than my not-quite-matched unpainted systems. It wasn't very hard - I disassembled the IIe case and DuoDisk, but I just carefully masked off the monitor; I was just too lazy to disassemble it. I didn't even prime them, just washed with soap and water really good using a scrubby pad and used a paint made for plastic.

From an inside edge, that has not yellowed. Take it to an Automotive paint place that can match that color. Then they can put it in a spray can or cans for you.
Whatever you do, or what ever paint you try do a test.
Do a test in different kinds of lights. You might be surprised how things look in different lights. Primer will also have an impact on the color. I would go with a gray or white.
The hardest thing to get right would be the crinkle finish and sheen. Most of the paints will fill in all the voids so everything will look more flat as you put on more paint. I tried sand blasting, but the sand was to fine to give me the finish I was look for. Not sure if shot peening would be better (glass balls they use for stress relieving metal). But then how long?
I have yet had no time laet alone the money the to try bleaching with H202 @30% with a UV light to see if can be reversed. Trying to get a stable Hydrogen Peroxide 30% not easy. I wanted to do a test on some cases or parts of them and see if it will bring them back. But you have to keep the parts wet, and keep checking on them over the course of days. Keeping them wet all the time is the main problem. Also the H202 is working so you have make sure it is not all used up and just water by the days end.
Even if this is was successful the cost would be more than painting 2 or 3 cases. Even the cost of shipping the items to anyone alone would cost $$ for the trip both ways.

I found a person in California that does professional painting of cases. It's on the costly side of $250.00 per case , but it is well worth it , as far as stripping the case done , priming and I think he mentioned doing a two fase painting . He found an exact match to the color for a II+. The results are amazing , and the cases come out looking brand new.

Yeah, heh, most of my collection is dusty and sitting in storage in my basement. I keep a platinum //e and a IIC+ around for playing with, neither of which are painted.
Now about the color, there's a video on youtube with some of the apple engineers from 'back in the day'

At around 00:17:45 he speaks about the apple beige. Pantone PMS 453. No idea if there's any way to match it to a modern paint system, but perhaps there is?!
