I just created my first Apple // mod. I removed my keyboard from my Apple & put a 12' extension cable on it so I could hook it up to my tv & play games on the couch. If anyone is interested in the details. Let me know. It was simple & cost less than $9 in parts.
How abut some pictures ???
Was it a 12' s-video extension cable per chance?
I would be verry intrested I am in the process of putting a platinum //e in a tower cause the case was trashed. And i wann keep the keyboard.
You need a 26 wire flat ribbon cable & (2) 26pin ribbon idc connectors. You can extend the cable by using one female & one male connector, or if they charge too much for the male connector, use female connectors on both ends. At my electronics store, they only had a 30 wire cable, but they only charged me for 26 wire & I just peeled off the extra 4 wires. There seems to be a tiny bit of delay in the signal, but it hasn't affected anything.
I'll have pictures and complete instructions in about a week.
Of course, you can also extend your joystick cable by just using a straight- 9 pin to 9 pin extension cable. The current length I'm using is about 6 feet. You may be able to get these for as low as $4.
I tried that with a towerized IIe but couldm't come up with a case for the keyboard that I liked. I found a third party external keyboard but it lacked a capslock whick made programming a pain and I wanted an easily detachable cable anyways. So I took a cable from the keyboard connector to a DB25 connector on the rear of the tower case using the ground as the 26th connection. Then I rewired a IIgs keyboard and wireed it to a cable with a DB25 connector.
I sort of wish I'd used a cable with a 37 pin connector. Then I could have run 9 wires to a mouse card and inside the keyboard to a mini-din 8 connector and changed the mouses DB9 to something suitable.
