Hey guys , I jsut picked up a close to mint condition Videx 80Col card for my II+ . Not exactly sure how it hooks up , other then it will reside in Slot #3 of the II+ . There is a small PC board that also connects to this card , and instructions state to install it in F14 spot on the motherboard? No idea where that is exactly. does one need this board to make this work , or is this some kind of enhancement for the board? Which makes me wonder because there is a POT setting on this board , I would assume that it is for adjustments in Video.... Another thing is the red connectors that go to the board are not color pinned , for determaning Pin#1 so one could easily connect these the wrong way!
Manaul only shows completed card installed with optional switch plate for the rear of the II+ . Doesn't show where place of the small PC goes to F14 on the motherboard :O(
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Patrick.

Patrick-
that little card plugs into the chip socket at location F14 (look at the letters and numbers along the edge of the motherboard) and provides programatic switching between 40 and 80 column mode. Without it, you must reach around and fiddle with the toggle switch on the backplate. You must pull the chip from F14, plug it into the small card (should have an empty socket - keep it aligned!) then plug the card into the F14 socket. Mine had damaged pins on the card that had to be repaired. It is a tenuous fit at best. The red plug that connects to the main card should have the holes spaced so that it only wants to fit one way. I'll check mine when I get home tonight if you are still having trouble.

Dave,
Thanks for the advice , this card must be a Videx Clone then , because there is no dip switches on this card. I think I know which card you are refering too because I seen it on Ebay. It has the two sets of plugs on the front of the card? Which means the edge of the card that would be facing the keyboard.... I do not have any faceplate that came with this card , if there is one then I need that. If not then this must be all that came with this card and the small Pc board that came with this on , which has the small black potentiometer on it must be for Adjustments but I will take a better look for location F14. When you meantioned that it is located on the Edge of the motherboard , are you talking about the right rear corner of the motherboard located around the area of the Joystick and just infront of the input jacks for the Monitor or Cassette jacks?
Thanks....
Patrick.
You would get either the back plate for manually switching the video (as in your manual) or the daughter board that plugs in back near the joystick (as you mentioned). There was a separate addendum for the daughter board. You might be able to find a scan of it online.

LOL ... yea I still can't find that darn chip it says to remove , unless this board just doesnt show it clearly on this board. Hopefully someone can give me a little navigation on exactly where this chip is located? I would like to see this board in action , I have a magnum 80col card , it works ok , but I was told that Videx is the better board. Also , I noticed there is a rom missing at the top of this board! Not sure if it needs it or not , but my other Videx board has two of them?!
Thanks..
Patrick.
It looks like I removed my Videx card some time ago for an AETerm. So, I scanned the softswitch installation addendum. Hopefully that should clear things up. Applefritter was giving me fits earlier, so I hope these made it.

It works! From what I can tell . I have to figure out what the commands are with this card. I noticed that once I am in 80 Col I can't RESET out of it? You see I have a modified non-autostart F-8 Rom installed in this II+ and normally when I hit RESET the II+ would naturally dump into 6502 machine prompt. This is not the case , but I think it's the nature of the card and I have to look up the commands in the book. By the way the doughterboard worked like a champ , the chip was labled a different # , something like 9334 IC which was down by the Color Trim adjustment! The only thing that this card did not come with is the optional switch plate for the rear of the II+ and the Diskette that came with it for Videx Videoterm , if anyone has that can you send it?
Thanks again for the advice!
Patrick.
