Mac Mini 2.0 RAM Issue

I have an issue with RAM of my MacMini 2.0. My assumption was the unit's RAM runs in pairs (such as 2G - 2X1G in each bank), but bank 1 sometimes does not kick in. Leaving me with just 1G of memory. After testing each module by swapping them from bank to bank, it still shows no change. So with that, I'm thinking of upgrading to 4G of RAM (4G-2X2G) just to get at least 2G of memory. Is this a wise thing to do? Can anyone tell me which Bank is 0 (top?) and which is Bank 1 (bottom?). If I run the unit with just 1 module, the system crashes.
Please clarify this for me. Thanks.

Which specific model of Mac mini do you have? There have been chipset changes to the Intel-based mini over time; the original ones only supported a maximum of 3GB of RAM; others can support up to 4GB.

There is a performance benefit to using identical pairs of RAM (this is referred to as "dual-channel"), so to hit that 3GB maximum for earlier models you give up a little performance.

If you're certain that one particular RAM slot is bad, just buy a single 2GB RAM module and put it in the remaining slot. There's no point in buying a 2nd 2GB module just to put it in a bad slot.

Mac Mini 2.0 RAM Issue

My Mini is the mid-2007 model (2.0) which is said to accommodate up to 4G of RAM and produce 3G when loaded in pairs. But as I mentioned earlier, the system crashes when just 1 RAM bank is left blank. So because of that I think they both must be loaded in pairs. I already tried your method to no avail. I can't figure which bank is 0 or 1. Bank 1 is giving me the trouble. Thanks.
