Mac Plus Booting Question

I have an early Mac Plus 4Mb. The machine turns on and bootsbto the OS6.0.3 System floppy. I have an Apple 330Mb SCSI External Hard Drive with OS7.0 loaded on it. When I connect it to the Plus and restart it does not boot to it. However, when I turn on the Mac Plus, insert the OS6.0.3 System Floppy and turn on the 330Mb External HDD, it boots to the floppy and the 330Mb HDD shows up on the desktop. How can I make it boot directly to the 330Mb HDD? I have it set at SCSI: 6.

Re: Mac Plus Booting Question

SCSI is weird. Not booting from the external could be a termination issue, even though it's showing up when you boot from System 6. ID #6 should be safe.

Do you know whether the System 7 install is specifically for the Mac Plus?

Re: Mac Plus Booting Question

I tried OS6.0.3 Mac Plus specific installation on the external Apple 330Mb HDD #6 terminated with a tested good set of 800k floppies. USystem and Utilities 1 installed fine, but Utilities 2 floppy would not read. Wiped HDD and connected to PM7200/90 and loaded OS7.1 from original OS7.1 CD-rom. Installation went perfect. Reconnected to Plus and it still will not boot from it. Opened the Plus. Everything looks pristine on the board. I'm stumped.

Re: Mac Plus Booting Question

I know its a long shot but perhaps you could use some System 7 floppies to boot the Mac Plus and install the OS on to the hard disk? The only problem is that I think system 7 floppies were 1.44Mb not 800Kb (Would be nice if someone could prove me wrong?).

That's my 2 cents anyway...

Re: Mac Plus Booting Question

You are correct. System 7 floppies are 1.44MB. It's a no-go.
