"natural causes"?

I think you didn't take care of it. IMO the LCD board is frecked, you don't need a new screen.

I can sell you a new one for $200 btw.

Oh, and why didn't you scrape the rubber off all the way to the front and towards the back?

What was your parent's expression when s/he saw this?

Wink I agree... I've never actually had an LCD die of "natural causes." The only one that's ever died was my Duo 230's, but that was due to stress! Wink I screwed around with it too much and a transformer (I think) on the inverter sizzled, popped, smoked, and gave up the ghost. The controller and LCD still work fine, but there's no backlight, of course. And that Duo is much older than 8 years. Try close to 12!

What exactly are "natural causes" of LCD death, anyway? Excessive stuck or dead pixels? Most LCD-related issues are really problems with a fading or dying backlight or otherwise damaged LCD data cable. LCDs themselves tend to last me a long time.

*shudder* Man, all those scratches. Yeah, you sure took the rubber off, but I still thinking scraping it off was a bad idea. You should have gone the steel-wool/mineral spirits route. But that's just MNSHO. You may disagree...

By the way, the first Wallstreet was introduced in May of 1998. Assuming yours was new then (first production run, not a PDQ), that would make it 6 years old at most.

Peace,
Drew

[EDIT] WHERE THE F' ARE MY LINE BREAKS?! I've got three carraige returns between my top two paragraphs, two html line breaks, and an html <p>, but still only one line break appears. WTF?!

Just what I wanted to say...he says he know Calculus, but does he know 1st grade Math?

This is a 300MHz Book, which was introduced in October 1998. Even if it is a "Wallstreet" model with a 300MHz proc upgrade, no way in hell that it would be eight years old.

Or it's a prototype but I doubt that.

thats not a wallstreet

the wallstreet curves from the top of the screen into the bottom case. the lombard and pismo have sharp corners between the screen top, the front, and the bottom. that pic shows sharp corners. and if it was a wallstreet, then it would be much shinier.

yeah...

Way too many nasty scratches, and IMHO, it's not finished(going by the black lines of rubber at the top and bottom).

And no that doesn't resemble a Wallstreet...

2400 hack?

The black lines at the top and bottom look like electrical tape. The whole thing looks like a 2400 hack, not a Wallstreet hack.

yes it is.

That is a Wallstreet. Lombard and Pismo don't have a metal plate underneath their rubber inserts...

Wallstreet's don't have completely rounded edges.

The strip at the top is probably intended to reflect the strip at the bottom that cannot be removed - this makes it somewhat more symmetrical, and it probably gives him a place to grip the PowerBook so that it doesn't slip out of his fingers when he picks it up.

All-in-all, though, I don't think it was as well done as it could have been. He was offered advice, but he didn't take it.

Peace,
Drew
