Help using CiderPress!

Im completely new to cider press.

I have a micro/turbo drive for my IIGS. I was using cider press to transfer a disk image (GS Desk Accessories) into a volume. So it said the file could not be transferred, and it did show up under the volume, but the size was 0. So I tried deleting it, but was still there. So now I decided to plug it in my computer and try it. All the volumes were fine, EXCEPT the volume (4) I was trying to put it in. Now when I try opening the file I was trying to put it in, or even edit anything in it, it comes up with a box that says the disk may be damaged. LUCKILY there was nothing on there! Anyone have any ideas on how to either fix this or create a new one(Volume)? Again, theres nothing on there thats important.

And also, how the heck DO I even put disk images on there? I was just trying to insert them... Theres no good documentation or tutorials for beginners (I think).

Im assuming this is very similar to a CFFA.

Thanks everyone

Re: Help using CiderPress!

I use ciderpress all the time. Just not to put images or files into large volumes for use on a micro/turbo drive. So therefore I'm not precisely sure of a solution that will work for you.

"I was using cider press to transfer a disk image (GS Desk Accessories) into a volume. So it said the file could not be transferred, and it did show up under the volume, but the size was 0."

Are you talking about a pre-made ProDOS volume? If so, what size? And where was it residing? And what was the exact error message?

Re: Help using CiderPress!

Ive seen those, and I still need help adding disk images to a volume. When I try and just add it to a volume, it has a greyed out "Add disk image" option. If I try and add an archive, it says to insert a disk (There is one). Also, if somehow I do get past these, it then says the volume I am trying to store these in is damaged (Because of the original disk image I got in there in the first place). When I go on my IIGS, I can open the volume, just not the damaged folder. I cannot even delete the folder.

Anyways, I just need someone to clearly state how to put a disk image into a volume. I do not want to mess anything else up.

Re: Help using CiderPress!

The exact error I get when I just try and put a disk image into the drive is "Unable to add Beagle Desk.2mg to image: the filesystem on this image appears damaged."

The damaged volume (Which I am assuming isn't damaged itself, just the folder in it) is fine and will open on the computer, and says it is fine, its when I try nd open the folder. Is there anyways to force delete this folder?

Re: Help using CiderPress!

When I click Rename Volume, I see the MicroDrive at the top, with the volumes under it. Vol 4 has an X, making the MicroDrive have an X too.. If this helps.

On one hand don't give up so easily. On the other Ciderpress isn't the most user-friendly with its conventions and cut/paste ops.

Re: Help using CiderPress!

Well, I guess I should have looked at cider press before I got the drive. I have tried everything, Im not just giving up without doing anything. The Floppy Emu seems a bit more Plug and Play to me, because I can leave it plugged in, select files right on it, and putting files on it is easy.

Once again, thank you everyone/

Re: Help using CiderPress!

If you don't care what is on volume#4, then you can just format it using GSOS on the IIGS.

When copying files from a disk image to a volume, you can't just copy the disk image. You have to open the disk image in a separate ciderpress window, highlight all the files to copy, right-click on a file that has been selected and select copy from the contextual menu.

Then select the ciderpress window that has the volume open, right-click on the volume name, and select "paste" from the contextual menu.

hope this helps
