Does anyone have one of these? Googling turns up only a magazine ad on deskauthority. I got this along with a "hand me down" II+ system someone gave me in the early 90's.

The socket on the PCB appears to accept the same type of ribbon cable used by the II+'s standard keyboard, but when connected in the obvious manner (plugging the existing keyboard cable into the PCB) I get no response at all from the keyboard (the power light on the keyboard does light up). It's unclear whether there is a problem with the keyboard itself, with the PCB, or whether I may be missing cabling/additional components needed to hook it up properly. The reason I suspect the latter is that I vaguely recall the internal keyboard still being functional when it was attached, though in honesty that was years ago (around 90 or 91). The system it came with with was in rather rough shape IIRC, and I ended up cannibalizing it and one other broken system to cobble together a working one, which I still have have.

The only socketed IC on the keyboard itself is an EPROM (I'm guessing this defines the macros on the left hand function keys). Because I get no response at all from any key (including reset), I'm guessing I either don't have it attached correctly or that there is a problem somewhere other than the individual keyswitches. There are no electrolytic caps on the keyboard itself.

I have this keyboard - it is dying and I would like to replace it -

My understanding from your post is that you are not looking to sell yours but instead are looking for information on how to connect it to your apple II?

If this is correct I can probably help if it is the same configuration as mine.

My first preference would be to buy yours from you - If anyone else has one for sale I am interested.

I don't know how to get this information out to the group.

I just joined today for the sole purpose of connecting with another Keytronic 200 user.

Here is the story I provided to Apple Fritter to qualify for membership.

"I have an apple II plus with Keytronic 200 external keyboard.

I saw a post on your site where there is a picture of my keyboard.

I still use my computer to run a football pool with a program that I wrote - I have tried to convert the program to run on a pc with no success so I must continue to maintain the Apple II Plus.

My Keytronic is on its last legs and I would love to replace it - it is the key (get it) to continued success for the use of the Apple II Plus - there are a lot of numbers to be input for the football pool - each and every week.

I am hoping that the person with the Keytronic post will be willing to sell it to me - an alternative would be if someone in your group could assist with a retrofit to the Apple II Plus for a new USB keyboard.

I am desperate - anything that you can do will be welcomed and vastly appreciated."

thanks

I eventually figured out how to connect it properly and discovered mine isn't working. These keyboards use a foam and foil keyswitch design, and the foam inserts in the switches tend to deteriorate over time. My switches are now to the point where there is nothing left of the foam but a thin layer of goo. These keyboards can be repaired (google "keytronic foam and foil repair"), but this is going to be quite a chore and isn't very high on my priority list at the moment.

There is an adapter for the II/||+ that will allow more readily available PS/2 keyboards to be used.
