Beds...

What kind of beds do you all sleep on? I've always had a normal / economy bed nothing fancy, and I've never had a problem with sleep quality or comfort.

However due to laziness and poorness I'm now sleeping on a plywood board with only a 1" camping pad for softness and a wool blanket beneath that for insulation. I've never slept better than on this board, it's incredible. Now, I am young (early 20s) and it's only been a few weeks so problems may crop up, but dang it's nice.

What is your preference of bed?

While I find this thread strange and confusing... Wink

I have a pretty flashy king single... black textured steel frame with pine trimming... and I've got a hell of a cushy mattress- not too hard, not too soggy... and I've never slept better in any other bed.

Not bothered as to what the bed looks like (but I am a fan of pine framed beds) as long as it's long enough to accommodate me and it's got a good firm orthopedic mattress on it, my spine can't handle soft mattresses...

At 6'2", I can rest my feet on the foot-board of most beds unless I scooch way up and nearly touch my head to the head-board. I am quite pleased when I end up in a bed where I am forced to do neither. Smile I usually sleep on a futon, but I really don't mind a nice, stiff floor or otherwise, as long as there is enought paddind that it doesn't hurt pressure points in the morning.

At 6'5"...

Exactly my problem- hence the move from a single to a king! Wink I find that in most motels I don't fit in **any** of the beds so I just take a few cushions off the couch and sleep on the floor.

standard stuff...

Standard Queen-size mattress, but the wife and I got one of those "memory foam" mattress toppers (like the Tempur-Pedic®, but just the top two inches). It's done wonders for my wife's back...

At 6'1", I don't have quite the problem that some of you giants do, but my feet do hang off the end of the bed sometimes...

height

yeah, I'm 6'2 and have a hard time fiting into many beds. That's another plus for this board, It's like 8 feet long, and four feet wide. Though I only use about 1.5' with my pad and all.

My boyfriend is 6'7" so we have a California King. However, it isn't as firm as I like and it makes my hips ache a bit. He loves it and doesn't have any problems. I prefer the Queen bed in our guest room. It is a firm mattress that has a pillow-top as well. So, it is soft enough where my hips sink in, but firm enough for it to hold it's shape.

I think the major problem when I sleep in the bed with my bf is that he weighs more than 100lbs more than me... so his side sinks way in and I get sort of forced into an uneven sleeping posture. My folks have one of those comfort select mattresses to avoid that problem. Someday I'll try one of those if I can afford it.

Sleeping Comfort

I spent time in Japan, and I loved those roll out futon affairs that everyone had. I slept like a cat does in an afternoon sunbeam Wink . But here in Canada, a traditional Japanese style futon isn't a common thing... (just the north american 'approximation' of a Japanese futon) so I settled for a compromise- a platform bed.

It's a raised platform affair, about a foot and a half off the floor, made of a stained and varnished hardwood, with a 5 inch depression in the middle that a queen sized mattress fits in. (Prevents it from sliding around)

Looks like a really low table with a mattress on top. The only drawback is the pointy corners on the platform. I have gouged my shins a few times. I find it to be very comfortable, others find it too low, and too hard on their backs.

My bed is a mission style queen size, with cherry head and foot boards. The mattress is a pillow top.
