Calling all original Apple-1 owners....

At VCF West (2019) this year on August 3rd and 4th at the Computer Histoy Museum in MountainView California we are trying to get as many original  Apple-1 in the same room as possible.  We are also thinking of a mass power on for those who want to the opportunity and also a discussion panel on Apple-1 stories where you can discuss the history of you particular system if you feel so inclined.  We will also respect your privacy if you simply want to display the board in a glass case which we will supply.

Please contact me at corey@myapplecomputer.net to coordinate.   We will work with the CHM and the local police to provide security for this event.

I will also reach out directly to many of you via email in the next coming weeks, but just in case I missed someone I’m posting here.

Thanks,

Cheers,

Corey

Sounds like fun. I’m coming
Sounds like fun. I’m coming to the Bay Area in early June for WWDC, so will have to check my schedule and talk to my wife to see if I can come back again in August. I think we may be in Europe at that time for summer vacation but are plans aren’t finalized yet. If I can participate then I’d only be able to bring the board and would need to borrow all the accessories to operate it.

We will make sure we have keyboards, power supplies and monitors.   Most people who would be traveling from out of town/country will only bring their boards.   I will start shipping apple-1 compatible keyboards and supplies in July to the Bay Area since I don’t plan on bringing my wood case either.

Corey

Looking forward to that event

Looking forward to that event.

How about having a table for troubleshooting Apple-1 replicas, for people building their own or have built ones and are not working 100%... ?

I’d love to do that, but I’m

I’d love to do that, but I’m actually working the show, most of the time I’ll be at the front desk or running around when I’m not participating in the original A-1 events.

For VCF East in the next few weeks we may be able to do some of that during the Friday classes day, I’ll talk to Evan Koblentz to see how much I’m needed on the Friday afternoon, no promises yet.  I’ll have an assistant, Jeff Jonas, to help with my VCF duties at east this year so it may be easier on the Friday since I broke my shoulder blade 7 weeks ago and can’t do any lifting.   I know that’s the opposite coast, but logistically I’ll be a person and a half with Jeff helping me so I may be able to put a few hours in troubleshooting.

Stay tuned I’ll call Evan this afternoon and see if it’s a possibility.

Cheers,

Corey

OK, checked with Evan.  Friday class schedules are  full at VCF East.    What I can do is find a VCF workshop day where I know I can attend, they just had one but I was out of town.  They happen about every month.

Cheers,

Corey

Just bringing this back to

Just bringing this back to the foreground incase I missed some people in the individual emails I sent out last week...

This summer the Vintage Computer Federation is hosting the Vintage Computer Festival West (VCF West) at the Computer History Museum in MountainView, California on August 3rd and 4th.  This event usually attracts a few thousand people for weekend of live vintage computer demonstrations, exhibits and talks.

We would like to see how many Apple-1 computers we can have onsite and operating for all the attendees to see.  We would also like to host a panel moderated by a CHM curator where you can talk about what made you interested in the Apple-1 and how you obtained your Apple-1.

We have already received RSVPs from many owners of surviving Apple-1 units.

The panel and power up demonstrations will all be filmed and eventually posted to the VCF YouTube channel.

If you do not want to power up your Apple-1, that's ok.   We will have an area for static display.

If you do want to power up your Apple-1, we will have spare keyboards, power supplies and monitors for those traveling where it's not practical to bring those components.

There will be additional security for the show, but I will not discuss details here in a public forum.

If you no longer own your Apple-1, please forward this invite to the new owner.

Please contact me at either corey@myapplecomputer.net or corey@vcfed.org to make logistical arrangements.

Thank you,

Cheers,

Corey Cohen

Though I am unable to attend

Though I am unable to attend VCF West this year, I am bringing my Apple-1 to the Bay Area next week and will leave it behind for the event. It’s the first time in 41 years that this particular Apple-1 is coming back to the US after spending most of it’s life in storage in Germany. I hope some of you will be able to see it powered up in person at VCF West!

Well we are looking good for

Well we are looking good for VCF West in August...

We have a whole bunch of confirmed Apple-1 boards and owners and maybe some surprises too.   We are just sorting out power supplies, keyboards and monitors for those who are traveling from far away and want to run their board.  Some boards will just be on display only, but it will still be cool to get them and the owners together.   I think we may get the record for the most running Apple-1 in a single location since the original Byte Shop boards were tested at the Jobs home in 1976.

One more cool thing not Apple related,  if you are into space stuff, there will be a whole 50th anniversary "Moon" thing at VCF West with an Apollo Guidance Computer and we just got confirmation that Frank O'brien who literally wrote the book on the AGC will be speaking.

Cheers,

Corey

At minimum: 10 Apple 1 computers at VCF West!

I talked to Corey today and can announce that 10 original Apple 1 computers will be displayed at VCF West, plus we're working on getting more! Several of these will be up-and-running. Original and current owners will join early Apple employees in a panel to discuss the computers, why they were purchased, how they were used, and what the owners plan to do in the future. So, buy your tickets online now. :) http://vcfed.org/wp/festivals/vintage-computer-festival-west/
