Apple II plus Update with apple works.

So after messing around. I got an Applied Engineering 80 column card. Took me a sec. to find the correct apple works modifier program disk from AE. Got it booted and for a split sec. (I could enter the date.) it was loaded. Then is crashed. Also said I only had 10k available too. It crashed because I was using a vsdrive and running programs is a pain. Still saving up for a floppy emu and disks. Also another drive. Yes, I know the in place floppy sd card will work fine. Just something fun about using diskettes.

In order for AppleWorks to be usable on a ][+ you probably really need a RAMFactor style RAM card with AE's Appleworks Expander for that loaded as well.  It may be possible to use a Slinky or even a Saturn style memory card with the right software as well, but it is more likely that an RF style card will work smoothly with an AE 80 column card and their patches for it.

Keeping an eye out

I'm keeping an eye out for a ram factor card. But my wallet is tight. To bad I  didn't have this bad in around 2014. They was mfg a 8meg AE ramfactor clone card. That worked with all the ramfactor stuff. would have been a great card.

Yeah, A2Heaven had a very nice card they were making but they haven't been able to make any more because the SRAM chip they were using was discontinued and is no longer available.  Unfortunately they used that same chip in their GS 8M card and their //e 8M card.  I managed to buy one of the //e 8M cards, but I would like to get a couple more as well as a GS and a RF or two.

Update

So I got a ramfactor card and apple works load up with only 10k. What I was reading is I need to use the 2.0 version to get more memory. So I'll try that next. But it is pretty nifty to see apple works load in a apple II+ in person. I know it was possible back in the day.

You need a newer version of Appleworks and the AE AppleWorks Super Expander program to modify the AppleWorks program disk to use the extra memory.  Appleworks won't see past 64k on a ][+ or 128k on a //e without being modified.

Yes I know about the expander.

Yes I know about the exander. I also found a manual about apple works 2.0 needing to used for more memory. When I did a test. I used pre2.0. You can do 1.2 and 1.3 to modify it for the 80 column card. Since the rest seems doaable. That if it works. Then I would just have more memory at that point and no need to bother posting it.

Thanks,

Josh

Helps to read.

So it helps for read. For anyone who does this. After using the AE  exander disk. You put in the first disk. The apple work startup disk. Then you put in the program disk as instructed. When it comes up to enter date. Press esc instead and you can configure additional options. One is saying how much ram you want to use from your ramfactor card. Then you save the config. That gave me more ram.

That is about it.

thanks ,

Josh
