Need some help testing (Qemu)

On the Mac:

  1. Install Homebrew
  2. Install qemu: brew install qemu
  3. Download this zip archive, containing disk image and shell script (applefritter.command).
  4. Execute applefritter.command. It should launch qemu and boot into Mac OS.
  5. Launch the program named 'Applefritter' to connect to the BBS.

I have that process working on my system. I'd like to know if anybody runs into any quirks, particularly with Catalina's over-protectiveness.

On Linux:

  1. Install qemu and qemu-system-ppc
  1. Download this zip archive, containing disk image and shell script (applefritter.command).
  2. Execute applefritter.command. It should launch qemu and boot into Mac OS.
  3. Launch the program named 'Applefritter' to connect to the BBS.

Please let me know how it goes.

On Windows:

I don't know, but if anybody would like to give it a try, I'd be grateful.

The image is pretty big. I'm planning to convert it to qcow2 and possibly tweak it a bit.

It's working with the above

It's working with the above 5 steps for me on Catalina and for another member on Mojave. I'm going to do a little more testing before publishing them "officially".

Tom,I run Xubuntu 20.04

Tom,

I run Xubuntu 20.04 (basically Ubuntu 20.04 with XFCE) so I downloaded and tried it. I had to also install openbios-ppc as I don't have any ROMs handy right now. The image works (left click doesn't open stuff properly and I haven't checked to see what's up with that yet) and the TCP/IP stack seems to function propery as I can load the IE5.5 Mac version and it will load Google. However, when running the Applefritter link it pops up after 20 seconds or so with a message saying there was a problem retrieving the requested URL (hotlink). I'm clicking Connect from the main screen without entering any password so wasn't sure if this was intended as a test for existing users.

The image file seems to function very nicely, better than some others that I've used in the past. If there is something else you'd like for me to try I'd be happy to give it a shot.

Brian
