How to make Apple II+ video address linear?

Hi,

I read some book that it only takes a TTL IC  to make the video addresses linear. No further details.

Anyone know how? Will it affect the refresh time? 

Just curtous about it.

Not sure, but if you managed to do it, wouldn't it become instantly incompatible with all software, including it's own ROMs?

Yeah, it would but if anyone is into 'enhancing' the Apple II trough FPGA etc.. like the TMS9918A board.

Anyway I read that in the preface of one of the 3rd party technical book that I thought was interesting.
