Can Apple II joysticks work on a GS ?

hello everyone,

im somewhat confused , i have 3 Apple Joysticks...

CH - D sub 9 pin
Joybot 3000 (PC fitting)
Altai (or something) with the internal joystick connector.

so one has the internal plug for the original apple ii , one has the D sub 9 pin connector (male) with 7 pins i think. and one is an old PC / apple joystick. this does not work on any of Apples.

now my question is...

the 9 pin CH joystick works just great on my Apple II+ but when used on my GS it does nothing , the fire buttons work and the screen cursor / object moves from right to left only and stops at the left most point on the screen. - i have no control other than the fire buttons.

i cannot use the PC / Apple joystick as the adaptor is lost - missing.

So after all that , does the Apple ii joystick work on the Apple GS ?

i would of thought ..yes?

thanks
mike

Probably you are plugging it in the wrong way on the GS.

Yes, however...

CH Products joysticks are notorious for being out of alignment.

Align it.

A joystick that is made for both PC and Apple usually has a switch on it because the button assignments are different between apples and PC's.

The key here is in finding out what resistance the pots are inside the joysticks. Apples require 150k ohm pots and PC joysticks have only 100k ohm pots.

But PC joystick to Apple joystick conversion is not as easy as it might seem. Doing the reverse is a lot easier.

After finding out the pot resistance, you can then begin wiring the joystick provided you have the correct cable.
