I have been trying to find a used imac for my mother for months now on ebay with no luck. In my price range that is. It seems that the vertical lines on the screen is not a problem just for iMac G5s. People are selling 17" and 20" Intel Core Duos with the problem in 1.8, 2.0 and 2.16 processor ranges and now I am finding the screen lines on Intel Core Duo 2s in 17", 20" and 24", and now I just saw some brushed aluminum iMacs with vertical lines on the screen.
I thought it was a rash of bad capacitors in the G5s only. Now some people are saying the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT video card went bad and that is causing the screen problem in the Intel iMacs.
So my question is: "is there any version of a 17" or 20" imac that does not have a capacitor or video card defect? I can certainly replace a dead hard drive or upgrade ram. I just do not want to install new caps.
