ipod diagnosis says "usbfail"

my ipod broke after i dropped it. it kept showing a folder icon. this was fixed by hitting it on my desk, but then it wouldnt' hook up to my pc, nothing would recognize it. i ran the 5-in-1 test and it says "usbfail" so i want to know if there is a way i can repair that without paying apple 250 for a new ipod. thanks all

I am experiencing the same problem you are except I didn't
drop mine. My simply froze one day at school but then came back
on later during the day. It froze from time to time after that
and now will completely stop playing music and is unknown to
my computer. You might end up getting it replaced that is if
you are willing to pay for the expenses of someone fixing it
for you or if you have a warranty on it, you can replace it
for i think free.

i dont mean to be mean... but...
OK... the iPod contains a tiny, tiny hard drive in it.... the same as a hard drive in your computer... with read and write heads flying across the drive platter...

so, you dropped it... which probably caused significant damage to the hard drive.
then your repair attempt was to slam it on a hard surface?

so.... um, you pretty much broke your iPod..... and if your repair procedures begin at slamming it on a desk, i wouldnt reccomend you trying to replace its hard drive.

now, if it is still under warranty... and if you completly recant your story and stick do the "I dont know... i just picked it up and it doesnt work anymore" story and it doesnt look really damaged, you may get it replaced under warranty.

otherwise, buy a new ipod.

I just wanted to tell you the first thing I tried wasn't slamming it on a desk. I reset it, I tried to restore it with multiple computers and different cables, I called apple but I was 14 days out of my warranty, so they wanted to charge me 250 to replace it. I read a blog that said to slap it on the side if you had the problem I did, the folder with an exclamation mark. I did this, and it now functions perfectly except for the usb port which now means the iPod isn't recognized by any computers.
