some info better than nothing?

macg4,
I usually put a disclaimer "i'm a pc guy" on my comments, so... I had a OSX/OS9 lombard and put an orinoco silver in it. I googled around, and at the time decided to use the ioexperts driver (and actually paid money for it Wink ) After I bought the driver, I noticed the sourceforge one, but never tried it. The "boughten" one worked fine, so I didn't monkey with it.

I usually booted into OSX, and the wireless worked fine- with one caveat: I had to manually enable the orinoco, and retype my wifi network settings (network name, no WEP, etc) each time I brought the machine up. It didn't take a minute and a half, but I was stymed as to why I had to do that. I chalked it up to OSX ignorance.

I only ever booted into OS9 for DVD's, so I can't tell you about functionality there. My googling this morning says that OS9 is supposed to recognize the orinoco card as an airport card and carry on without a driver or fussing. See link:

http://homepage.mac.com/techedgeezine/cart_mac_pb4.html

And for the sake of completeness, I was (am) running an old Linksys 802.11b router- at the time completely open, no WEP (that changed!)

So to recap the ramble: the orinoco silver worked in my lombard, using a driver from ioexperts.com, with a few idiosyncrasies.
hope this helps,
mike

The wavelan /orinoco cards wi

The wavelan /orinoco cards will work under os9 and will be recognized as an airport card. In Os X the sourceforge drive will work perfectly. The difference in colors for the wavelan is their wep encryption, gold is 128, silver is 64 and bronze is none, iirc. Also, you can usually find the wavelan cards pretty cheap.

I think you can also flash the silver cards to the gold equivalent, but I could be wrong.
