fair use

Note that it is illegal to break such encryption in the USA (due to the DMCA) and in Europe.

Optical media, far from the promises of the 1980's, doesn't last forever, nor even a lifetime, and in most cases, less than a decade. Once you purchase your DVD or CD, you shouldn't expect to have to purchase it again, but the DMCA would force you to do otherwise (if you want to maintain your optical collection).

The DMCA infringes on fair use. Some wish to engange in the politcal struggle between Big Greed and the consumer.

Re: Mac DVDs Backing Up Guide

...then rip your DVDs to your hard drive using Video Converter for Mac...

Or you can just use Handbrake/MediaFork Which does the same, but FREE!!! Why do people come here posting links to stuff they want to sell for $49, when there is free software that will do the same thing. In fact, it will take it from DVD directly to MPEG-4/AVI/H.263/5 w/o having to put it to hard drive.

This is ridiculous that people do this. On top of that, most of the software they are promoting, is useless or clumsy, and costs a lot for it.

EDIT:
On top of that, as a side note, is there anyway to put up a filter that strips the URL to that site. We seem to have a recurring person coming posting links to that site, and I for one, am sick of it. Sorry if I am ranting, but I loathe people coming onto the site and doing that. for the last time. Go away!

oh and btw

you can also get "popcorn" by Roxio. I got it, but I can't recall if it will copy with the Macrovision/CSS

It's pretty easy to use. I got it after buying my DVD Burner online (for the macside. Came with toast. The cd also had Nero 6 on it)

Same 'guide' posted verbatim here

You're welcome to read it there.

I'm not sure which of the linked programs is responsible for these spams disguised as helpful guides, but I'm reaching the point where I'll refuse to buy any product that uses this underhanded promoting method.
