Unusual Internet drop out problem..

Hey all,

Have quite an unusal problem with my server set up in regards to intermittent internet drop out's.
I'm running Microsoft ISA 2006 on one server which has a direct connection to the ADSL, and Trend Micro IWSS web filtering on another - have about 10 other server's (Citrix, and domain controller's etc) in the same farm also, all running Server 2003.
For some reason, the internet is dropping out for short period's of time on all other server's and clients except for the ISA server. Even stranger is all I have to do to fix the issue is open up IE on the ISA server which seems to refresh something as everything else works from then on. Have checked with the ISP - no faults found at all there. My IWSS and ISA seem to be running fine, although I have upgraded from proxy 2 recently.
Could something within ISA be causing these drop out's? Also, we have a 8Mbp's ADSL connection which provides for up to 1000 user's at a time - at peak times could heaps of traffic be causing the bomb out's.

Confused..

Kurt

DNS?

Is the ISA doing DNS, too? It sounds like maybe a DNS flood is causing a problem with slow responses. I've some anecdotal evidence, but I couldn't point you to any articles, that indicates the DNS service can get overloaded. After a while, it sort of "catches up" and everything is fine again, but until then, it will make it appear that there is no connection.

Just a hunch, and not a logical one, so...

RE

Cheers,
Nah one of my domain controllers is doign DNS. Different server.
Have sorted problem out now, got some other tech's in to help out.
Was caused by the web filtering box (IWSS) flooding the ISA with requests, the ISA server thought it was under attack and refused requests. Have increaded the request quota from IWSS on the ISA server and havent had any issues since.
Now, my backup's are failing on the citrix server.. Smile great haha - totally unrelated problem, just seems to be one thing after another at the moment.

Cheers!
