I know there has to be someone here curious of how it looks and works. let me say that I've only installed it once, and had no problems with the vista drivers meant for my laptop. It IS basically a new version of vista, but runs much cleaner. It uses a bit less ram, and I have about 20 less processes running all together. It seems very snappy to me, some things aren't perfect with it yet, but its beta. Basically, its my main OS on my laptop now, because it does what I need it to do. Others have complained of game incompatibilities but that's to be expected. That being said, I probably wont install it on my main desktop till it's a retail release. All in all, MS is sorta making me think they are getting things the way people really want them...

I have it installed in Fusion on my MacBook. It's pretty much a cleaned-up Vista, and like you say, it runs a bit smoother than Vista did in the same setup. AVG, Firefox, Thunderbird, iTunes, Quicktime and Safari all work without complaining. OpenOffice crashes at launch.
Hopefully Microsoft can distance itself from the Vista debacle. Hopefully they can release a solid, stable OS that doesn't leave too many people stranded without software/driver support.
Hopefully Snow Leopard will be similarly blessed.
I have seen it work really nicely on a friends laptop; and I installed it without issue on an old Pentium 3 machine that I have (1ghz P3; 512MB of RAM; Radeon 9250 Graphics card)
The pentium 3 install was just to see if it could be done.
It's "useable" but not very much so - and not what I know that Windows 7 can be.
I am pretty frustrated though; I spent SEVERAL hours last night trying to get it to install on my "nice" desktop PC - and it just wouldn't.
The installer would get to "Expanding Files... 0%" and then just hang - and crash after a few minutes.
I burned 4 different DVD's at different speeds; swapped in and out Ram (so I was / wasn't in dual channel mode) Removed my TV tuner; updated my BIOS, etc...
Still a no go. At about 3 AM this morning I went outside and threw all 4 discs in to the street to watch them shatter.
...It was quite satisfying.
Oh well; It IS still a beta - I'll try again with a RTM copy. I KNOW that it works well - I've seen it in action. I just wish it would install on that specific piece of hardware.
7 is shaping up to be what Vista should have shipped as. I still hate the changes to the interface, but at least performance is reasonable.
MS really should have come out with Windows 2008 Workstation. I'm tempted to just install Server 2008 R2 on my desktop at work instead of migrating to Vista/7, because the user experience is so much better.
I agree. I've got it installed on my Aspire One A150 (with 1.5GB RAM) and it runs about like the original XP does. I've got a triple (well, quad with the Acer Recovery partition) boot with XP, 7 and Easy Peasy. 7 does what I need as well, so it's on the default boot.

I've got it running in Fusion too. Works nicely, much better than Vista.
Isn't it odd.. I just had to go back to vista because my current install of 7 corrupted a lot my applications and windows update stopped working. Other than that, I would have kept using it! I really do hope that MS nails this one on the head upon release of retail...
Oh, and Evil, does the same machine that failed the "7" install run vista? just curious...

yes. it does / has run Vista.
Its odd; since the 7 installer is basically identical (almost) to the vista installer....
