Hi,

I have an iBook (Dual-USB, 800mhz, CD-Drive) and i have just installed a dvd drive. I turned on the mac, put a dvd in it. It came up with an icon on the desktop. I cant play it though because Apple DVD Player isnt installed. It didnt come on the install disks I dont think. How can I play dvds. I looked for Apple DVD Player download on the internet, but all i can find is updates! Help Me!

I don't think that you can re

I don't think that you can re-distribute that program, according to Apple's license.

You might look at http://www.videolan.org/ as they are a free, open source video player that supports just about everything. Not a great user interface, but it is very versatile.

Been there, done that . . . but . . . Doh!!

now I forget how I got DVD Player installed.

Same deal as you basically, added a combo drive to an iBook 500. Maybe it was a re-install of the 10.3.4 updater? I'd hate to think I had to do the entire OS install again. I really don't think I had any luck finding a stand-alone DVD Player installer.

Shoot, getting old and can't remember diddly-squat!

Clamshell DVD

I'm working on a Clamshell iBook for my sister's boyfriend (part of my plan to move all who come in contact with me to the Mac platform lol). It'd be nice to put in a DVD player or CDRW, a combo would be even better. I once came across a list of drives that would work in a G3 Powerbook but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know what non-Apple branded drives work in a Clamshell?

clamshell and DVD?

the earlier 300/366 serie can't use Apple's DVD player, where the later FW models can. Dunno if one can play DVDs on an earlier iBook with a 3rd party player, anyone know?

As for mechanisms, you can put just about any standard slim optical in an iBook, but of course the face won't match.

opticals:

PB video subsystems (yeah, not quite about iBooks, but somewhat related):

True

The face doesnt match on mine. So i snapped of the clips on the bezel and superglued it on. Works fine. Oh and dan, my iBook came with the iBook Mac OS X 10.2 Install Disks, The Software install disks (which I have already tried) and the 10.3 updater. Which one is it? I dont wat to spend hours when its the wrong disk.
