I noticed the same thing on my windows machine at work. LIkely AOL has just dropped it as a working feature. Frankly, warning is a little stupid anyway. Just my opinion.

i dont think AOL has discontinued it, cuz i just warned my roommate. But i still cant warn anyone else, and noone else can warn me.
I think the difference has to do with iming someone from aol to aim, aim to aol, aim to aim, or aol to aol. It appears that maybe warning from one service to the other doesn't work or something.
