Make a new user (goto control panel and then accounts). Make sure its an admin user. Then logoff and logon to that new user and test. If it works fine, then its most likely a corrupt prefrence in the user preferences ffolder on the old user. If it doesn't work in the new user, then there is probablyt something afoul with the os itself.
