Format a single partition

Hello,
How can I format a single partition of a hard disk, using Mac OS 7.5.3, 8.1 or 8.6, booted from another partition of the same disk? I want to format it in unix format, for to install the Quix Bootloader.

Using Drive setup with mac os

Using Drive setup with mac os 7.5.3 (it might be called somthing like HD setup SC AAH! i forget...) and click drive, then click patrition, then click custom, the you can delete partitions etc. DO NOT MODIFY THE PARTITION YOU ARE BOOTED OFF. That should work. If not, use Mkfs, from the netBSD distribution. I have used that while booted off the same drive, but it only creates netBSD partitions.
