Those of you who hang out in the Applefritter IRC cahnnel are likely aware of what im doing in my AirPort Overhaul project, but i have a question:
Im thiking of adding an external antenna to my origional apple AirPort Base Station, and im looking for a suitable antenna. But im getting confused with all these different connector types. According to drBob's writeup on adding an antenan to the base station (http://www.applefritter.com/node/3222) the Lucent 802.11b card in the base station has a SMB connector (?). I found this antenna
http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/detail.asp?dpno=483090
it says it has a Reverse Polarity SMA (female) connector. Is this the type of connection i need, i.e. will this antenna work?
No that will attach to a linksys or cysco base station though. Go to www.fab-corp.com and under the "Antennas Omni" section they have that antenna for Orinoco cards. It's about $40 and has a MC connector.
The card in the base station isn't an Orinoco, it's a Lucent Technologies WaveLAN Silver.
They are the same company!!! I have a pigtail on my base station with that connector. I also have that exact antenna on my powerbook.
If you want to see the connectors look here. http://wireless.gumph.org/content/3/7/011-cable-connectors.html Bob must have mis-typed his write up. A sma connector is about the same diameter as the height of the airport card, no way it will fit.
So, i need an antenna with an "MC card connector" ?
Yep.
Thanks
