PowerBook 1400 with scsi problems

I recently purchased a PowerBook 1400 for $10 jsut to have on hand so i could use it for word processing when i am on the go. The only problem is that it did not come with the original cd drive; someone replaced it with a floppy. So in order to install any programs at all, I grabbed a scsi zip 100 drive, but when I tried to use it, a sign flashed across the screen that looked like a diamond with a line and a two . I have no idea what that means because i know very little about scsi and was wondering if someone could help me out. If you have no idea what i am talking about, i will post a picture if need be.

Cable

The problem you are havung is that you have a SCSI dock cable or you have an adaptor set to dock mode. Switch it back or use a normal cable and it will work. Keep the dock cable tho' as it will become useful for hooking it up to desktop macs. The number 2 means it's set to be SCSI ID 2 on the chain.

id

when it's off dock mode, the computer will boot, but the zip does not show up on the desktop, does the problem have to do with the scsi id?

Driver?

This might sound stupid, but do you have the zip driver loaded?
