Coming Full Circle, the realized quest of Lisa acquisition
To begin, My interest in the Apple Lisa started with my introduction to the All-in-one emulator, MESS. I had been vaguely aware of its history prior to that from a general interest in computer history and evolution. This would become an obvious endeavor. I have always been compelled to study the history of anything that has truly interests me. In a 2am quest to find arcade roms for Mess, I stumbled upon the traveling exhibit 'VIDEOTOPIA'. This is where i started to see the intertwining relationships between Nolan Bushnell(Computer Space)/Al Alcorn(Pong) forming Atari, Steve Jobs/Steve Wozniak(Breakout rules!) forming Apple, and the, ahem!, inspiration they gave to Bill Gates to start Microsoft. I will always fantasize about being a twenty-something in the Bay Area during the early 70's. It's because of this history that i have this spark in early computing, yet, recognizing that i can never experience what it truly is. I will never marvel at the abilities of the Intel 8080 or the Motorola 6800, nor will i experience the birth of the modern GUI. My first computer was a PII 266 with 96mb of ram, and a 20gb hdd. It wouldnt be until years later, around the release of w2k, that i would actually own a system with a 5.25 fdd, P75,16mb ram, and a 512mb hdd. I still have that computer, it still runs WFW 3.11, but serves as an arcade/console/computer emulation kiosk. It changes weekly, and still entertains in my home regularly. And, I get a regular rationing of mockery when i perform my weekly backup to tape. This is all from a girl, born in 1980, who, because of her fathers profession(electrician), has had an interest in computers since she was 14. I thank him regularly for forcing those piano .... er, i mean, .... DOS lessons on me when i was 13-14.
Well, to bring these rambling to a close, i would like to say ......
I hope that i will someday be able to afford the worthy collectors proce for an Apple Lisa. So that i may experience, as best as i can, the birth of GUI, and the first Personal Computing powerhouse. I do get to relive it somewhat through emulation, but it is in no way the same. Of that, I'm sure. I just pray that i will find one reasonably affordable, as i have searched the attics, basements, and sheds of everyone i know .... or am aquainted with for that matter.
Continued Expiditiousness ....
