So now eMac has 9-watt per channel speakers. What a massive gain over the 8-watt p/ch oldies...
The ATI graphics-current eMac models have all been plagued by speaker issues(weird volume control, shoddy speaker mounting causing everything to vibrate) and I'm interested to see if this current model fixes any of that.
Maybe they now have proper speaker mountings, or maybe, just maybe, an actual speaker box(or phase-inverter orb like in the iMac DVs...though I doubt it).
Or maybe they're just the same old crap, with 2 extra watts.
Either way, I'm gonna be poring through the current model's service manual on Monday to look for changes. Apple might get eMac right one day....
IIRC, the original eMacs were well-constructed computers with high-quality components. Such a shame that they are what they are now.
Better quality **everything**. The originals only had one common hardware issue- the IVAD cable coming loose- but even I have yet to see one of those.
With the advent of the 800MHz model, everything went cheap n' crappy. Made sense, really... Apple needed a cheap consumer computer.
But with the beautifully built Mac mini, I think Apple needs to inject a bit of the ol' decency into the eMac once again, or else the mini will continue to murder it in sales(don't know about sales in the US etc., but at my store we sell a boatload more minis than eMacs).
