Tray load iMac flyback source? Slot load analog board problem cause?

Greetings all. Am new to the forum, but have been an Apple Authorized Service Provider for the last 8 years. I was wondering if anybody has knows of a reasonably priced source for the flyback transformers that fail in tray-loading iMacs. We deal with companies who repair these boards (like DT&T) but they won't tell us where they obtain their parts. If originals aren't available, how about suitable substitutes??? Any thoughts on this are very much appreciated.

Secondly, it's my understanding that the most common failure on analog boards for slot-load imacs involves a specific capacitor. I know there is a large 560 microfarad electrolytic (C905) that tends to bulge, but any of these I've ever tested out of the circuit appear to be good. I'd also appreciate it if anybody has any thoughts on either of these issues.

Thanks!
Jason

Bluestar International Components

I bought two flyback transformers in June from Bluestar International Components; cost was about $33 each with shipping.

Can't help you with the slot-load question, but since you're the AASP, maybe you can help diagnose my problematic slot-load iMac; I think the CRT is dying. The display is very dim -- you have to turn off lights to see much of anything on it. I've cranked up the brightness on the flyback & no joy there. Is the best remedy to replace the CRT or is there some way to bring it back to life? Or might there be another problem that is causing it to dim?

Perhaps you're just such a wonderful human being that your aura and very bright glow are just drowning out the image on your iMac?

Okay, not likely, but a little flattery once in a while goes a long way...

Oh yeah, I'm selling this bridge up yonder and I'd really like you to come have a look at it. It's complete with toll booths and international customs agents, is that something that you'd be interested in? I'm prepared to offer it at a special "today only" price of...

Sorry, couldn't resist. Wink

Ah, I didn't mean it as an insult, Davintosh. I just had this vision of a God-like being sitting in front of an iMac. The glow emanating from the God-like creature was so bright that the display of the iMac's CRT was unreadable.

I will refrain from describing you in an angelic fashion, in the future.

Unless you're employed in Canadian media; if that's the case, you genuinely are angelic, albeit shy. Wink

Roger dee, thanks for the tip on Bluestar. Just ordered a few flybacks.

As for the slot load CRT failure, I would certainly suspect a failure in the Power Analog Video Board before I would the CRT. I base this on the personal experience of having replaced HUNDREDS of Power Analog Video Boards, and maybe 2 CRTs on these computers (and one of those was because an inxperienced technician overtightened the CRT/Video Board clamp, and cracked the neck of the CRT!).

Also, seems like a dream I remember that the imac firmware update 4.1.9 issue can cause symptoms like this. Are you running Mac OS 9 or X on the computer? .

Dead CRT on a iMac

Hello Jason hello every body

My name is Ray.

Can you tell me if it is posible to replace the screen on a tray loading IMac.
I just but this old blue iMac at the recycle center and the screen is dead.
They have a PowerPc 5200 on stuck will this screen fit the iMac.

I check the internet for this problem, and I see the flyback transformer problem repeted often, is this part on the CRT or elsewhere, because if not it won't help to change the screen.

Can someone show me a picture of that part and explain whereit go and what it do?

Thanks!
