I'm toying with the idea of producing a printed circuit board for my amplifier project. It's an audio amp based on the concept of a power op-amp. Very low noise and a power output up to 56 watts depending on what voltage you supply to it. It'll drive 4-8 ohms, though the power requirements will vary depending on the intended load.
Anyway, the costs of making the board are kinda high, but the costs of making a whole bunch of boards is only a teeny bit more. I'm writing this to get a feeler to see if anyone else is interested in buying printed boards to build their own amplifier. I was thinking $20 for a set of 2 boards (one for each channel). I'll include a copy of the schematics, all write-ups, Bill of Materials, and a design manual for the amp itself. (I plan to release all docs under GPL anyway)
So, anyone up for a hobby project?
How much would shipping to the UK cost?
Also, would it be pre-drilled and could you supply the components as well? (cost pls)
I have no idea how much shipping would be, but I can put them in a padded envelope, so probably not more than a few bucks. Yes they'd be pre drilled. I wasn't planning on supplying components, but the bill of materials would have a list of everything you needed including part numbers from the suppliers.
I found a place that will do high quality PCB's with solder mask for $35 per board. I'm combining two channels onto one board in order to cut the cost in half, and I've converted the majority of the components to surface mount to make the design simpler, cleaner, and smaller.
I have to order at least 2 boards at a time, I'll probably order 4.
Man! OrCad layout really sucks. I had to make MASSIVE changes to the schematic in order to make layout accept the NetList.
