Apple IIGS Rom1 New Owner

Hello All,

I just received a IIGS ROM1, it has a memory card and no floppy drive or hard drive or ...

When I start it, it says Check Startup device...

I tried by adding a Apple IIe Disk controlleur and boot from a PRODOS Floppy but nothing changed.

Is there somewhere I can get basic knowledge on how a IIGS is working ?

What should this machine be equiped with ?

I need to changed the internal battery, it seems to be soldered :( what is the best option, what is the reference of the battery ?

Sorry in advance if it seems very obvious questions ;)

Thanks

Vincent

You probably tried slot 6. On

You probably tried slot 6. On the IIgs slot 6 by default is set to the disk port. Putting the disk II card in slot 7 should work. You can set slot 6 to your card in the control panel but without a working battery it’ll go back to default when the power is turned off.

You should clip out the battery right away. At this point it’ll be dead or about to die  and leak corrosive liquid.

There is a IIgs facebook group that has a lot of traffic.

Regarding video, the A2HDMI seems not to work on the IIgs, what is the best option either for VGA or HDMI ? RGB2HDMI ?

Thanks

Make your own SCART cable and

Make your own SCART cable and use a TV/monitor that has a SCART input, there are number of LCD TVs that have it too. You should be able to build your own cable for any DISK II drive including your emulator to connect to the DB19F drive port of the //GS. But for now it is OK to use a DISK II controller -- it acts well as a repairable fuse too, not like the IWM chip on the //GS  motherboard.

Yes, the Dan ][ Controller lets you mount SmartPort volumes from .PO images stored on a FAT32 formatted microSD card.

Simply rename it to BLKDEV01.PO, BLKDEV02.PO, BLKDEV03.PO, ..., BLKDEV0E.PO, BLKDEV0F.PO.

Have you managed to emulate the 3.5" 800K drives without smartport, e.g. A9M0106?

I am working on it,

Timing is not the same, and Motor interrupt is managed differently, but it should not be a big deal.

I am using a rude hardware way, looks ugly but is OK for my private use, and is free. I made several of these, the idea is not mine, saw it on the net:

Yes I have one. I bought it a few weeks ago. It works great (with Disk ][, not yet with VIBR disk emulator)

I have ordered 10 from IEC, and I will build one adapter.

I need to further deep dive on the pinout from IDC to DB19.
