My scanner doesn't turn off

So, I bought a Benq 5000 scanner and it's perfect but there is something the worries me - it couldn't be turned off. It connects to the PC through USB port, first I though to leave it connected like my other peripherals, but it's lamp doesn't turn off - it just remains glowing non-stop. The manual says that it should revert to power saving mode when not used, but it looks like that it turns off only when I disconnect it from the computer (or the computer is off). Actually it turned off automatically one time, and there it was connected and the computer was on, but since then it didn't again. I forgot to mention that it doesn't have turn off switch. So what to do? Is there some kind of program that disables some of the usb ports (but only those I selected, my mouse is USB) or something, or I'll have to disconnect it every time I won't use it to the end of it's live?

tricky. . .

my scanner doesn't turn of, I have to click on something on the computer to get the lamp glowing, and then it stays glowing until I turn the computer off. I never noticed it was a problem. . .

Hey, I know that my question

Hey, I know that my question is a bit stupid, but it is my first scanner, don't make laugh of me. The scanner is getting really hot after 1-2 hours of glowing, and the lamp turns on every time I turn on my computer. (You know, I'm not talking for the led on the front panel - for the scanning lamp inside)

Bring up System Properties.

Bring up System Properties. (Right click on my comptuer, left click on properties).

CLick on Hardware tab.

Clcik on Device Manager.

Expand the Universial Serial Bus Controllers entry.

Double clikc on each of the "USB Root Hub" devices

In each of the USB Root Hub property windows, click on the "Power Managment" tab.

Make sure that "Allow the comptuer to turn off this device to save power" is enabled.

If not, enable the tick box.

If you don't see those options, i would consider updating your INF/Chipset drivers for your motherboard.

Well, I'll see are there new

Well, I'll see are there new drivers on ASROCK's site for my MB (K7S41GX). For now I found a sollution - I just disabled the scanner in device manager and am enabling it only when I have to use it. P.S. Isn't Applefritter loading a bit slowly today? I opened all my favorite site with the normal speed, but waited about a 10 min. for Applefritter, strange huh?
